Microsoft issues KB5034440, KB5034441 Windows updates for BitLocker Secure Boot flaw
PUC_Snakeman and 15 others reacted to random_n for a topic
"just resize the partition lol" Yeah, this update is gonna go over like a lead balloon. That partition is often at the front of the disk so it's impossible to resize, only to rebuild at the end. The choice of partition size is usually made at Microsoft's discretion during install anyways. The update should have copied the .wim to the C: volume, done the servicing there, then copied back (well, maybe it does; checking that will be on today's to-do list). If that still leaves it too large, then back to the drawing board to find something else to delete or compress in the image and keep the disk footprint neutral. Guidance on using diskpart to help out with a routine security update from the same company that tries to scare people off using regedit is rich.16 points -
Microsoft wants you to use Copilot as soon as your widescreen PC starts
Wiser87 and 11 others reacted to sssplus for a topic
Microsoft thinks that when I turn my computer on I don't know what I want to do, and it wants the Copilot to "assist" me. Whereas in reality it's more like "Damn, again this Copilot popping up! Just move away, I have things to do!"12 points -

"Microsoft knows..." Of course they do, and they just don't care. People should have to opt-in to this crapola, not opt out. Good ole Microsoft. Thrusting their software in the users face whether they want it or not. Windows 8 anyone, anyone? Deja Vu.12 points -

It looks like Microsoft will soon add AI writing assistance features to Notepad
darkpuma and 9 others reacted to redfish for a topic
I personally don't care, I just think its a stupid decision and stupid priority from MS. There are potentially useful applications for an AI on a desktop OS, like helping users do complex file searches. But instead of focusing on useful applications theyre prioritizing gimmicky applications. Nobody current uses Notepad to write reports. It has the fingerprints of MS's marketing department all over it. I don't think anybody wants a Copilot key on their keyboard either but the MS marketing dept thinks they do. I don't think they have any clue what they're doing, its just a bit frustrating.10 points -

USB 4 Gen 4, USB 4 2.0, ugh. I thought they were going to do away with the ridiculous naming schemes. Why not just call it USB 4.1, USB 4.2, etc?9 points -

This is a sign of a company that has no plan for Windows. They don't know what to do with Windows. So to protect their jobs and their team, middle managers in the Windows teams try to shove AI in the most weird ways possible because that's the only breakthrough they've had and that's the only thing talked about both within the company and outside, keeping their job "relevant".9 points -
