They've done tests and found they do not improve and can actually worsen your ability to see at night. Also one company had to settle with the FTC over making bogus claims all the way back in 1997. They do nothing - they literally give everything a yellow tint - EVERYTHING, which means that relatively nothing is lighter or brighter than anything else.
