  1. CBS All Access is becoming Paramount+ on March 4, coming to more markets by João Carrasqueira ViacomCBS today announced the launch date for its rebranded streaming service, Paramount+, which is basically just a new name for CBS All Access. The rebranding strategy was announced last year, and it aims to bring the company's content under a more recognizable brand, especially around the world, since the service is also expanding to more countries. In addition to changing names in the U.S. and Canada on March 4, Paramount+ will launch in Latin America on the same day. The service will also come to the Nordics on March 25 and to Australia in mid-2021. Canada's offering will also be expanded in some way later in the year, though the company didn't provide any more details on that front. In addition to the content already available on CBS All Access, ViacomCBS also announced last year that more original content was in the works for the relaunched service. This includes The Real Criminal Minds, a docuseries inspired by CBS' Criminal Minds TV show, and Kamp Koral, a new series by the creator of Spongebob Squarepants, aimed at children. Competition in the streaming space is fierce, with new services popping up around every corner, so using a more recognizable brand makes sense. Paramount+ also follows the template of other streaming services such as Disney+, discovery+, and Apple TV+.
  2. https://www.polygon.com/tv/2018/6/19/17479570/new-star-trek-tv-shows-cbs According to Variety, four new Trek series are actively in development at the network, presumably as programming for CBS All Access, the streaming-only service that premiered Star Trek Discovery in late 2017. More at the link above.
  3. Unsurprisingly, Star Trek: Discovery is being pirated at record rates by Muhammad Jarir Kanji Earlier this week, CBS aired the premiere of Star Trek: Discovery, the first TV series set in the universe since Star Trek: Enterprise in 2005. As expected, the premiere of the show was met with widespread viewership, raking in over 10 million viewers to CBS on Sunday. While the first episode of the season was made available on CBS' over-the-air network, the rest of the episodes are exclusive to CBS All-Access, the network's streaming service. The hope for the decision was to entice the massive following of the franchise to subscribe to the service and while no numbers were provided by the company, it did state that signups on the day of the premiere exceeded previous records. However, restricting access to such a popular franchise also had the significant risk of encouraging users to simply pirate the TV show and it seems that's precisely what happened. The first two episodes of the show are currently among the top 20 torrents on The Pirate Bay, one of the most popular torrenting websites on the web. The top of that list is dominated by Game of Thrones episodes but Episodes 1 and 2 of Discovery rank 9th and 19th on the list, respectively. The premiere, in fact, seems to also be climbing the list, going from the twelfth position to the ninth in just a few hours. Via: Ars Technica

    Supergirl (TV Series)

There was a very interesting Easter Egg in Man of Steel which pointed to Supergirl becoming part of the DC Cinematic Universe, but does Kara Zor-El's future actually lie on the small screen? If Bleeding Cool are to be believed, then yes, as DC Comics are said to be actively pitching Supergirl as a TV series. Producer Michael Green is said to be attached both in that role and as a writer, and his credits include Gotham, Heroes, Smallville and the Green Lantern movie. Interestingly, he also worked on the Supergirl comic book during the early days of "The New 52" reboot. We'll have to wait and see for now, but The CW would certainly make a good home for the character if it means she meets up with The Arrow and The Flash! Source
  5. CBS All Access is now available on the Xbox One by Rich Woods CBS is now offering its All Access streaming service on the Xbox One. For $5.99-per-month, the service offers a large back-catalog of the network's shows, along with a live stream. Star Trek fans are sure to rejoice at the news, as the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery series is slated to launch exclusive to the streaming service. Of course, if you're outside of the US and Canada, you'll find it on Netflix. Other series, such as a spin-off of The Good Wife and a digital version of Big Brother will also be available on CBS All Access. CBS Interactive Entertainment Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital Platforms Rob Gelick said the following in a statement to Multichannel News: Overall, our subscriber base is spending more than half of their time streaming CBS All Access content on connected devices, and that increases to 75 percent when watching CBS All Access’s live local TV feeds. Expanding the service to Xbox One gives CBS Television fans even more ways to watch their favorite programming on their device of choice. CBS All Access is currently available through the CBS app on Windows 10 (now including Xbox One), iOS, and Android. The service can also be found on Roku devices, Xbox 360, Apple TV, Chromecast, Android TV, and Amazon Fire TVs. The company promises that more platforms will be added in the coming months. 6. Apple grabs 'Carpool Karaoke' as exclusive show for Apple Music subscribers in 100 countries by Andy Weir Apple is making its own 'groundbreaking' TV show, Planet of the Apps, which is - as you probably guessed - about apps and developers. But today, the company bought up the exclusive rights to another hugely popular show from CBS. Carpool Karaoke began as a segment on The Late Late Show with James Corden, in which the British host is joined by celebrities for a ride in his car, as they sing along to some of their favorite tunes. It's become a massive success - "the biggest viral video hit ever on late-night television", according to Deadline, with over 830 million YouTube views in the last year. Plans have been in the works to create a spin-off series for some time, and today, it was announced that Apple Music will make the new series of 16 episodes exclusively available to its subscribers in over 100 countries around the world. While Corden will serve as an executive producer on the new series, he won't actually host it, but he will continue to host Carpool Karaoke as a 'recurring segment' on his late-night CBS TV show. A host for the standalone series on Apple Music will be announced later. Apple's Eddy Cue described Carpool Karaoke as "a perfect fit for Apple Music - bringing subscribers exclusive access to their favorite artists and celebrities who come along for the ride." The deal raises interesting questions about the future of Apple Music, and whether the company intends to significantly expand the range of exclusive material that it offers to its subscribers with further acquisitions of video content. 8. ACADEMY AWARD WINNER HALLE BERRY TO STAR IN ?EXTANT? Oct. 4, 2013 A NEW DRAMA SERIES FROM STEVEN SPIELBERG?S AMBLIN TELEVISION AND CBS TELEVISION STUDIOS FOR BROADCAST IN SUMMER 2014 ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK Academy Award winner Halle Berry will star in EXTANT, a serialized drama from Steven Spielberg?s Amblin Television and CBS Television Studios. In August, the CBS Television Network announced a straight-to-series order for EXTANT, to be broadcast in summer 2014. In a thrilling drama, Berry will play an astronaut who returns home from a year-long solo mission in space and tries to reconnect with her husband and son in their everyday life. Her experiences in space and home lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history. ?There's only one Halle Berry and we are incredibly honored that she has chosen EXTANT to expand her illustrious career,? said Steven Spielberg. ?As she does with everything she touches, she will bring a deep authenticity to her role and I very much look forward to working with her.? ?Halle is the type of award-winning actress you dream of collaborating with for an event project such as EXTANT,? said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment. ?Her talent and ability to immerse herself into every performance has created memorable roles that have resonated with audiences everywhere. It?s a big coup for CBS to have Halle star in her first television series, especially with such an exciting original concept and a role layered with mystery and humanity.? ?I'm always on the lookout for amazing roles and when you see material that contains this strong of auspices, nuance and complexity it compels me to run toward it no matter the medium. For five months a year I'll get to live with and play this incredibly intelligent and vulnerable woman, and for the remainder of the year I'll continue to look for other roles that move me as deeply as this one,? said Halle Berry. ?I've found amazing partners in CBS's Nina Tassler and Les Moonves, and the incredible Steven Spielberg, along with his Amblin production team, whose vision and creativity in storytelling is unparalleled.? In addition to EXTANT, Berry and her producing partner, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, have entered into a two-year, first look production deal with CBS Television Studios. Berry won an Oscar in 2002 for her starring role in ?Monster?s Ball.? Her additional feature film credits include playing Storm in the ?X-Men? franchise, including the seventh installment, ?X-Men: Days of Future Past,? to be released in 2014 and she also starred in the James Bond film ?Die Another Day,? as Jinx. Berry started this year starring in the successful feature film thriller, ?The Call,? for Sony/Screen Gems. Berry?s successes on television include her critically acclaimed and award winning role in HBO?s movie, ?Introducing Dorothy Dandridge,? which earned her an Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award and her critically praised performance starring in the Oprah Winfrey produced "Their Eyes Were Watching God," which earned her both an Emmy and Golden Globe Award nomination. EXTANT is a co-production of CBS Television Studios and Amblin Television. Steven Spielberg, Greg Walker, Mickey Fisher, who wrote the script, Brooklyn Weaver, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank will serve as executive producers. Halle Berry will serve as co-executive producer. The series will be distributed domestically by CBS Television Distribution and worldwide by CBS Studios International. http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/10/extant-halle-berry-joins-cast.html

  10. The planted CSI spinoff will join offshoot NCIS: New Orleans on the CBS schedule next season. CSI: Cyber was not on the list of four drama pilots picked up to series by CBS earlier today but as we reported, the project was in final negotiations for a pickup, which now has become a reality. Written-executive produced by the CSI team of Carol Mendelsohn, Anthony Zuiker and Ann Donahue, CSI: Cyber stars Patricia Arquette as Avery Ryan, Special Agent in Charge at the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI in Quantico, VA, who is tasked with solving major crimes that start in the mind, live online, and play out into the real world. The planted spinoff aired recently as an episode of CSI to a great response. It is a departure from the forensic DNA of the CSI franchise and is darker as it focuses on cyber crime. Another CSI veteran, former CSI: NY showrunner Pam Veasey, is expected to run the new series. Mendelsohn will continue to be in charge of the mothership series as she has been since the beginning. The pickup marks Arquette?s return to primetime at the network where she last starred in Medium. Source

  12. Good things really do come to those who wait. CBS has given a series order to Battle Creek, a new(ish) drama from Breaking Bad boss Vince Gilligan and House creator David Shore. The network is moving forward with 13 episodes of the detective series, which will debut in the 2014-15 TV season, our sister site Deadline reports. The show ? which Gilligan first developed at the Eye Network more than a decade ago ? follows two very different detectives who are paired up to reduce crime in Battle Creek, Mich. One thinks that the task requires cynicism and deception but few resources; the other believes that naivete, trust and tons of resources are what?s needed. After Breaking Bad finished production on its final season, the finale of which airs this Sunday (AMC, 9/8c), Gilligan was able to revisit the project. He and Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad) will executive-produce with Shore, who will assume showrunner duties. Sony TV and CBS TV Studios will co-produce. http://tvline.com/2013/09/25/vince-gilligan-battle-creek-series-order-cbs-david-shore/
  13. Skins star Kathryn Prescott has joined the cast of CBS miniseries The Dovekeepers. The actress will play a teenage tomboy named Aziza, who disguises herself as her brother in order to join the male warriors of Masada, TVLine reports. The series - set in ancient Israel - tells the true story of 900 Jewish people forced to live in a fortress in the mountains of Masada, after fleeing from the Romans. The four-hour miniseries is based on Alice Hoffman's 2011 historical novel, and will be executive produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett. It is set to air in 2015. Former NCIS star Cote de Pablo will lead the cast of The Dovekeepers, with 90210's Diego Boneta and Rachel Brosnahan (The Blacklist) also featuring in the cast. Meanwhile, Prescott's Finding Carter was recently renewed for a second season by MTV. Source

  15. Ophelia Lovibond has joined the cast of Elementary season three. The English actress will play the recurring role of Kitty Winter, Sherlock's new prot?g?, reports TV Line. Her reasons for working with Sherlock will be unclear and will cause friction between Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) and Sherlock. Elementary's second season concluded with Sherlock taking a job in London with MI6 as Watson moves out of his house. It's thought that Sherlock will meet Kitty in England before he heads back to America. Lovibond will appear in Marvel's upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, and it's rumoured that she will be playing a servant of the Collector. Gina Gershon has also been cast in season three of Elementary, as a socialite suspected of running a drug cartel who strikes up a rivalry with Watson. Source
  16. CBS has given a pilot order to Scorpion, a drama from Nick Santora, Justin Lin, Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci. 18. According to the insider, the project will be redeveloped by 20th TV for the 2015-2016 TV season. I?m told HIMYD cocreators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas remain invested in keeping the Mother franchise going, and the pair have a lot of boosters at CBS (namely network chairwoman Nina Tassler). Should Dad get a second chance, a new cast would likely be brought in to replace Gerwig & Co. (all of whom were released from their contracts at the end of June). Source
